In Loving Memory of Sappho

Sappho passed peacefully at home at the remarkable age of 20, surrounded by her devoted pet parents.

Adopted in 2006 after making an unforgettable impression at the shelter with her playfulness and bright curiosity, Sappho quickly became the heart and the unmistakable ruler of the house. She was a fierce hunter of insect intruders, dispatching them with skill and certainty, to her family’s deep gratitude. In her domain, she carried herself like royalty, intimidating other felines with her stalking prowess and her quiet, commanding presence.

Sappho also possessed an uncanny talent for heights: if there was a highest place in any room, she would find it. Kitchen cabinets, vet’s office shelves—no summit was beyond her, even if it left the humans equal parts impressed and dismayed.

Over the years, Sappho made many friends and greeted houseguests in her own way, by welcoming them into her kingdom with a rub that felt both affectionate and faintly possessive.

She delighted in making toys out of the unexpected (especially gloves, Mardi Gras beads, and milk caps), and she excelled at fetching. She was also an expert at laziness, spending long hours sunbathing and sprawling in luminous comfort, her golden eyes glowing. She spent much of her later years curled up on the couch and bed, always finding the coziest spot to cuddle with her family.

She will be remembered and missed for her ferocity, her demanding affection, and for the many amusing, chaotic moments she gifted her family across two decades of love. 🐾
